PHOTOGRAPH EXERCISES!

Image
Although, my job within the group is editing, I believe it's important for all members of the group to learn photography; landscapes, portraits and black and white, so that everyone can have a better understanding of visual composition; like the rule of thirds, as well as color and technique, and this ultimately helps with the creative and narrative flow of the story in our film. 1. COLOR PSYCHOLOGY!

Image
COLOR PSYCHOLOGY! Color psychology is the study of how colors affect perceptions and behaviors, and in films, it can be used to create a story, whilst also engaging the viewers and making it an even better experiences for them. Similarly, we'll be using three different colors to convey a story throughout our film. 1. RED Red is the color traditional desi brides wear/married women. Red, in western media, also symbolizes desire, passion and courage. 2.  GREEN Green is the color that is associated with nature, growth and balance, and for our film, green will be used in the sense of hopefulness and new beginnings. Implying the girl to be free from invisible chains. 3.  YELLOW Yellow symbolizes joyfulness, excitement, and energy. Here, yellow will be used as a way to symbolize hope and happiness.

REFERENCES AND INSPO!

INSPIRATION FOR OUR FILM! Originally our film was going to have a vintage feeling to it, however, I decided we could also make it into a documentary-style, or in other words, the beginning of the start of a documentary. Which is why everyone had collectively started watching different types of documentaries (some about children brides and some not) to better understand where we wanted to take the direction of our filming and editing. (MAIN) INSPIRATIONS; I Was a Child Bride: The Untold Story [ TV SERIES ] Too young to wed: The secret world of Child Brides [ 2011 / NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ] Worth of a Girl: hope and survival of child brides [ VOICE OF AMERICA ON YOUTUBE ] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6wzZsEvY84

IDEA INTRODUCTION!

Image
THE FINALIZED IDEA! " VANI / ونی " A young bride escapes on her wedding day. [ synopsis ; ] As the wedding ceremony unfolds, Fatima's heart races with fear and desperation. When her mother informs her that this is a custom that has been followed for centuries—the only way to reclaim her life is to forge her own path. When her mother encourages her to stop her brooding and come out of her bedroom-turned-bridal room, that is when Fatima decides to execute her daring plan to escape. With the whole family caught up in the festivities, Fatima races against time, navigating through hallways to find her way out, that way out is the back-door for her, and with new found determination to forge her own path, escapes on time. * Follows a non-linear format. "Vani" is a short-film that shows the harsh realities young girls have to go through in order to please their families. [ meaning of VANI ; Vani (Urdu: ونی) is a custom where girls, often minors, are given in marriage...

FINDING THE RIGHT IDEA!

Image
FINDING THE RIGHT IDEA FOR OUR FILM. Finding the right idea was in my opinion the hardest decision our group could make. constant back-and-forth with one another and surfing through different concepts and ideas. Not only that, we had to consider our budgeting, sets, and if we'd be able to find enough actors, without struggle. Originally my 2 ideas revolved around the thriller genre, 'last woman on earth' and '3 friends trying to solve a cold case', whilst Zahra's ideas were a 'man living in a loop' and 'a runaway bride'. Ultimately, we went with the runaway bride concept, and with the help of the remaining members, we decided it would be better to focus our film on a child bride as well. As not only is this idea unique but also sheds light on an on-going problem in many countries.
